Telling the Truth… yeah, the album has a scratch

I’m pretty confident my title is meaningful to a limited crowd. But, oh the joy we used to have with this miracle of technology. The Turn Table.

Think the Scribe and the rich young ruler had a bad case of it? Step lightly when bringing the gavel of guilt upon them… Why, you ask? Look a little closer and I think you’ll understand. Go ahead… hit the zoom in button (okay, there’s not really a zoom in button on my site-page, quit looking). Close enough to see the Scribe’s face… the rich young ruler’s? Looking a little too familiar? Yeah, it’s me… and it’s you. Go back and read their stories again (previous 2 posts with the same title… that was the meaning of “the album has a scratch” title… ).

Think I’m wrong? What was that you said when your spouse reached over, uninvited, and took a French Fry off your plate… “Hey! that’s mine!?” Remember the thoughts that went through your head yesterday when that dirty, poorly dressed man at the minute market asked if you could spare some change? …I didn’t hear your answer… oh,… “get a job!” And when you heard of foreign missionaries desperately needing support to go into unreached nations? Really? “We have enough needs right here?”

Yeah, it’s really me behind the mask of that Scribe. I’m just like him. And except for never having been described as “rich,” I’m just like the young ruler. And so are you. And so was everyone who witnessed the rich young ruler’s saddened departure.

It’s why fear fell upon them and caused them to ask, “Who then can be saved?” (Luke 18:26)

And it’s why God sent His Son. It’s why Jesus set His eyes on Jerusalem… on the cross. It’s why when they asked that question, He gave the only adequate answer…

“The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke 18:27

This reminds me of C.S. Lewis’ Pilgrims Regress where the ‘religious leaders’ all wore elaborate masks. It’s grace alone for all of us, isn’t it? Good reminder.

Not only does the record have a scratch, it’s one of those scratches that make the song keep jumping back to the same place over and over and over and over…until someone “bigger” reaches down and thumps the tone arm.

P.S. the title is very meaningful to me…. yep yep.

AMEN! Finally, I’ve read someone else who expresses my feelings about our utter unworthiness of God’s love. This is why GRATITUDE is so key to the Christian walk (in my opinion anyway). David was a man after God’s own heart — a man of gratitude. If the rich young ruler had just been grateful; all would have worked out for him BECAUSE Jesus died on the Cross for him, and for me and for you. Thanks so much! Carley
