When you live in a rural area, you learn to always ask “I’m going into town, does anyone need anything?” So it wasn’t unusual for one of The Little Darlings to ask if I would fill up his Roo Cup while out.
Clever marketing tool of Kangaroo Express, the Roo Cup can be purchased across the Southeast for $6.99 and includes the privilege of refills for a quarter all summer long. Testimony to the effectiveness of the promotion is the fact that I had to wait in a line of Roo Cup holders to get my Little Darling his frozen refreshment.
All those cups were purchased with the hope of constant refills. The purchaser knows it is going to be a long, hot summer and there is a buzz of excitement about the great deal in having your thirst quenched for a quarter. There is a Roo Club, a Roo sweepstakes, and Roo social media entries. All those cups will be filled…and emptied…and filled…and emptied.
In the time it took me to make it from the end of the line to the cash register, my mind and soul jumped to the satisfaction promised from the Everlasting Well….
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4: 13-14
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” John 7:37
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. Revelations 22:17
This summer, a Roo Cup is going to be my prayer prompt for the spiritually thirsty souls that I know. I will bring a specific list of individuals to the Lord and ask him to be their hope of constant refill. I’m on my own list. There’s no line and no quarter needed.
