Yesterday was “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day” as declared by Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. With many flapping thoughts and opinions, planned boycotts and acts of support following the remarks made by the company president regarding same-sex marriage, my thoughts scratch around the connection between being politically correct, hate speech, and truth. Before my thoughts peck further, I feel it necessary to research the “official definitions” of each word/phrase.
Dictionary.com defines politically correct as
demonstrating progressive ideals, esp by avoiding vocabulary that is considered offensive, discriminatory, or judgmental, esp concerning race and gender
Law & Legal Definition says hate speech is
a communication that carries no meaning other than the expression of hatred for some group, especially in circumstances in which the communication is likely to provoke violence.
