Parable Purposes: Secrets

…a continuing introduction to a study of Jesus’ parables.


“The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. This is why I speak to them in parables: Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand (Matthew 13:10-13).”

secretThe disciples of Jesus are curious. They’ve listened to their Lord communicate with the crowds and the religious rulers and have noticed something peculiar. He has a tendency to teach in a sort of code language. So they inquire, “Why do you always speak in parables (Matthew 13:10)?”
