DJ: “What religion are we?”
Roseanne: “We’re basically just good people.”
Dan: “Yeah, but we’re non-practising.”
Do you ever find discouragement in realizing those dreams you had and those goals you made aren’t becoming a reality?
One Christmas season, Randy Bohlender, author of “Jesus Killed My Church” found himself feeling this way. He describes his countenance as one whose “needle of the soul-o-meter was dipping left.”
He cried out to God, “I’m not happy with what I’ve done this year!” The whispering response he heard back is life-changing.
“I know you’re not happy with what you’ve done this year… but what do you think about what I’ve done?”
We may not do all that we desire. In our own eyes, we may even fail miserably. But there is one thing we can absolutely believe in… God has done, and will continue to do all that He wants. There’s a transcendent comfort in those words, right?
Mr. Bohlender goes on to conclude, “God is forever writing our story, and He gives us the dignity of being able to introduce characters that occasionally wrinkle, but not alter, the plot.”
