Our Ultimate Goal

piperMissions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exist because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever. So worship is the fuel and goal of missions. ~ John Piper, Let the Nations be Glad!

About mtsweat

Seeking the rest that is only promised and found in Christ Jesus, along with my treasured wife of more than twenty-five years, we seek to grow in our relationship with our Heavenly Father, walk with the Holy Spirit as He moves our hearts, loving others always as Jesus loves us, and carry the news of His glory, the wonderful gospel, that gives light and life where there once was only darkness.

  1. I agree that worship is eternal and I long for that day (soon coming) when I will worship Him wholeheartedly, with no distractions.
However, I believe missions/ministry/serving the Lord is part of our worship while we are here. Surely we serve Him because we worship Him and we cannot serve Him unless we worship Him.

  2. Askme says:

Worship is anytime we see God for who He is (God) and we see ourselves honestly (in need of God). Missions is worship in motion.

  3. Rob Barkman says:

Bro MT. I believe that missions is a part of our worship of the Lord. You really can’t split the two. What is missions really? Honoring and glorifying God through our speech as we speak to the lost about Him. That, in my mind, is an act of worship. We will be honoring and glorifying the Lord throughout eternity as well, in the sense that we will be praising Him with our speech for all He has done for us. The only difference will be in eternity, we will be praising Him in the presence of those who are redeemed only. On earth we tell others about all He has done for us to both lost and saved.
The Great Commission makes it plain that one of the great missions that God has given to His church is to take the gospel to the lost (along with baptizing new believers and indoctrinating them as they join the membership of the assembly). All three of these are acts of worship that the church has been commanded to perform.

Just my thoughts on this subject.

    Lord bless you, my friend.
